Overview

Pinar del Río is Cuba's westernmost province and the heartland of the country's tobacco industry. It contains both the legendary Vuelta Abajo and Semi Vuelta sub-regions and produces the vast majority of Cuba's premium cigar tobacco. The province's iconic mogotes (flat-topped limestone hills) and lush valleys create some of the world's most photogenic agricultural landscapes.

Terroir

The province encompasses Cuba's most diverse tobacco-growing terroirs, from the mineral-rich sandy loams of Vuelta Abajo to the mountain soils of the Sierra del Rosario. The Viñales Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a stunning natural amphitheatre surrounded by mogotes where traditional tobacco farming continues as it has for centuries.
